Judgment day was set for the day after the great election. But before the final moment would arrive, the Almighty sent a pollster to do some exit polling. The Almighty had been plugging for citizens to appeal to their sense of right and wrong before exercising their choices. The Almighty’s penchant for recalling the past, to His chagrin, always led him to that fateful first election in paradise when there were only two voters. He had done the first exit poll of the first two voters.
With judgment day on the horizon, this time around, it was clear that the Almighty would have to send a pollster. So the following is a discussion that took place between a pollster from the Almighty and an unsuspecting voter.
Pollster: So tell me who did you vote for? Candidate Y or Candidate X?
Voter: I voted for Candidate Y:
Pollster: Why?
Voter: Y is a representative of choice; of liberty; and that there is nothing that should get in the way of freedom to make the decisions without interference.
Pollster: So you know that Y will go forward with more government sponsored killing of children who just happened to be in the womb, correct?
Voter: That choice must be afforded a woman.
Pollster: Yeah, like the apple in the tree of knowledge of good and evil, correct?
Voter: Call it what you like, even though I am a dyed-in-the-wool Catholic, I think there are so many other poverty issues and needs our country faces that outweigh a question already settled by the Supreme Court.
Pollster: But what about the Supreme Supreme Court of the Heavens? Do you think they would follow your freedom logic? Do you think they would from their heavenly measure of jurisprudence prefer the choices of adults over the life and safety of an innocent soul waiting to grace the world with possibility, and potential?
Voter: Hmmm. Well that is speculative and we have Candidate Y who would like to see more government support for poor and has a program to equalize income and make things equal. Candidate Y would like to be like Robin Hood and redistribute income that has unfairly been accumulating in the hands of the super rich.
Pollster: Of course you know that Jesus once said, “the poor will be with you always.” Correct?
Voter: That is no justification for trashing the poor and allowing the rich to continue this unfairness in a free society.
Pollster: So you want to make it an unfree society by executing the innocent first as an excuse for income equalization?
Voter: You’re just trying to make me feel guilty.
Pollster: What if I told you that tomorrow the world was going to end and that you have cast your vote and there is no way for you to change it?
Voter: Yeah, the planet Neburu is going to hit us … is that what you are saying? Idiotic!
You are clearly conducting this exit poll with an implicit bias … are you some kind of hater? You think Candidate X with all the vitriol and insults represents liberty? You know, liberty, the ultimate of ultimate aspect of our lives as enshrined in our founding documents?
Pollster: Hmmm. What about an older founding document that says “thou shalt not kill?"
Voter: Well we shouldn’t be mixing politics and religion. Remember, there is a separation of church and state.
Pollster: That’ll go over well upstairs.
Voter: What do you mean?
Pollster: My question still stands. What if I told you that tomorrow the world was going to end? I didn’t necessarily say you made the “wrong” choice. You clearly made a choice exercising the freedom that the Almighty gave you.
Voter: Look I’m tired. It’s clear you have an agenda. I am going to go home with a clear conscience, say my prayers, watch a little CNN, and have a great night’s sleep.
Pollster: Thank you for your time. Pleasant dreams. Hope to see you around soon. Very soon.
The voter looked curiously at the pollster but ambled unknowingly on his way. The sun had set already and the polls had closed. The great election was cast. With a great sigh, the Almighty then knew His magnificent penchant for mercy was about to be greatly taxed.
The story of Adam and Eve is really the story of an ancient vote once taken; and, it was testimony of the powerful repercussions of the simple action of the choices we make. However you vote, vote as if tomorrow were indeed judgment day. Vote your conscience. Vote your morals. And vote for the benefit of the little souls we may never ever see have a fighting chance at the wonderful experiment of life first, then freedom.
